VASTU TIPS FOR DRAWING ROOM

A Drawing room has always been regarded as the status symbol of its residents and a reflection of one’s power, prestige, personality and goodwill in society. It is used as a place to welcome all distinguished and formal guests and hence should be maintained beautifully. It marks the first impression of the inmates of the house for people coming to visit them. Just as the Maharaja’s of yester years used their court room to discuss agendas and meetings with their councilors, similarly in modern day homes; the drawing room is used as a public area of the house where guests and outsiders are entertained. Beyond this point, strangers are not allowed or permitted to peep into your private area.

Guests being entertained in the drawing room should feel comfortable and cozy and this can happen only if positive energy flows within this area. So, it is highly essential to harmonize this place as per Vastu and its principles, apart from ensuring its beautification. Here are a few tips to suffice the needful.
  • The East, North or North-west directions are best suited for a drawing area within the house.
  • The Eastern side of this room should be kept free from furniture, light and airy as far as possible.
  • The southern and western walls should be used to place all the heavy furniture pieces.
  • The seating arrangement should be such that while occupying the seats, one should face the East direction.
  • It is advisable to hang a mirror on the Northern wall of the drawing room as it enhances the positive effects of the energies emerging from the north direction.
  • Windows can also be installed on the northern and eastern walls as this would bring in prosperity for its occupants.
  • The drawing room should be used to display all your expensive and priceless possessions like showpieces, art forms achievements, and so on. The logic behind this is that according to Vaastu, what you showcase comes back to you in a round circle and in multitudes.
  • Try using pastel green hue for the walls of your drawing room. Also, the area should be well lit up and bright.
  • Fresh flowers and plants are a good medium to decorate and beautify your drawing room, especially red and yellow flowers. This assists in creating a dynamic and prosperous environment. However, care should be taken to dispose of dead flowers immediately. Also avoid using artificial or dried flowers for enhancing its beauty and interiors.
  • Fragrances like room fresheners, aroma oils, incense and essential oils of flowers help create a positive environment by removing unwanted odor and clearing the house off negative energy forms. Good smell appeals to everyone, including angels and deities. Hence, these should be used to create a healthy and fresh environment around you.
  • A bowl full of sea-salt should be kept around the room as this substance contains magical powers to extract negativity from the surroundings.
  • Quartz crystals can also be used to induce positive energy in the environment and free it from all negativities as it is blessed with amazing cleansing properties.
  • A fountain with fresh running water or a bowl of flowers with fresh water in it can be placed in the north or the north-eastern walls as this brings in prosperity for its residents.
  • We should not use idols and images of Gods and Goddesses to decorate the drawing room.
  • One should avoid keeping dead objects like dried flowers, broken articles, skins of wild animals or antiques anywhere in the house, including the drawing area. These objects contain the negative energies of the user and hence prove to be inauspicious and unhealthy.
  • Also make sure that all clocks hanging in your house and office premises are in working condition. If not, then wrap them in a box or paper and store them in a close wardrobe.
